.com Review

The Greatest Salesman in the World is a tiny book, and it is a treasure. First published in 1968, Og Mandino’s classic remains an invaluable guide to a philosophy of salesmanship. Mandino’s clear, simple writing style supports his purpose: to make the principles of sales known to a wide audience. A parable set in the time just prior to Christianity, The Greatest Salesman in the World weaves mythology with spirituality into a much needed message of inspiration in this culture of self-promotion. Mandino believes that to be a good salesperson, you must believe in yourself and the work you are doing. It is a simple but profound spiritual philosophy about how to succeed in the world’s marketplace, easily understood and easy to take to heart. –Jodie Buller –This text refers to the Mass Market Paperback edition.

The summer after my freshman year in high school, a ton of years ago, I was miserable. I didn’t have any new friends at school, I was having a hard time at home, and I was trying to get through everyday with a smile on my face.
I took a trip with a bunch of people I didn’t know, a 10 day backpacking trip to an island in lake superior. Our guide was a 75 year-old man named Dave. Everyday, Dave read us a chapter from this book, and everyday my respect for him grew.
The day I got off the island I bought the book and began my ten month journey through the scrolls it contained. I’ve followed the instructions, reading each chapter for one month, several times. I’ve worn out several copies and given away several others.
This book profoundly changed my life. Not only am I extraordinarily successful in terms of "material" success, but I am happier than I ever imagined it was possible to be several years ago before I went on that island. Buy this book, follow it’s instructions, and even if you are never the richest woman or man on earth, you will be among the happiest.

I can see why some people will give this book less than 5 stars. If you are looking for fancy smancy selling techniques, look elsewhere. This is not about technique, it is about the habits; the character that makes up a great salesman.

I first started using this book 9 years ago. I would read a chapter a day, three times a day and cheated by reading ahead. More importantly, I began to make these habits my habits.

At that time, my sales were less than satisfactory. Within weeks, my sales climbed and I began winning contest after contest. When people asked me what I was doing, I would pull out this book which I carried with me. Some would leaf through it and giggle. And they wondered why their sales were so low!

I also found that when I got sick of this book and felt like I had mastered it, a short while later, my sales fell again. So did my attitude. So I started the process all over again and you guessed it, I started making sales again, this time faster than before.

Over the years, I have bought many copies of The Greatest Salesman in The World. Some were dog eared and worn out, some I just lost or sometimes I kept one at the office and one at home.

I just started re-reading this book again. Watch out……

For those who enjoy classic business parables like the "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Clayson, "The Baron Son" by Vicky Therese Davis, and "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelo, they will certainly find interest in "The Greatest Salesman in World."

Like the other works, it has been translated around the world and brought joy to the hearts of many. "The Greatest Salesman in the World" is the first, and by far the best, in Og Mandino’s trilogy including "The Greatest Secret in the World" and "The Greatest Miracle in the World."

As the title would imply, it is the ancient story of the world’s greatest salesperson whose passes on his secrets of success by bequeathing ten scrolls to his protégé.

The Scroll Marked I, Today I begin a new life – Form good habits and become their slaves
The Scroll Marked II, I will greet this day with love in my heart – Show love and compassion to the world and you shall find it returned
The Scroll Marked III, I will persist until I succeed – Persistence will bring you success
The Scroll Marked IV, I am nature’s greatest miracle – Love yourself
The Scroll Marked V, I will live this day as if it is my last – Seize the day
The Scroll Marked VI, I will be the master of my emotions – Live courageously and do not fall victim to fear and disappointment
The Scroll Marked VII, I will laugh at the world – Appreciate each situation and do not take life too seriously
The Scroll Marked VIII, Today I will multiply my value hundred fold – Find ways to create value for others in your exchanges
The Scroll Marked IX, I will act now – Act decisively to achieve success
The Scroll Marked X, I will pray for guidance – Renew yourself through a connection with God

In summary, it is an inspirational story that is wonderfully told in a spiritual and principled tone that you will be sure to enjoy.

This morning I heard a great interview on EWTN with Ignatius Press, "speaking out" for the new YOUCAT. YOUCAT is short for Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church. Everyone will want to know why YOUCAT is yellow and white. Some may have guessed, "Because it is the color of the Vatican flag!" You would have been correct!

For two years, groups of 50 youth banded together to work on this new Catechism of the Catholic Church for youth, under the direction of Cardinal Christoph Schönborn, Archbishop of Vienna, Austria, who was the editor of Catechism of the Catholic Church. The EWTN interview was exciting for me and, with 15 grandchildren, I hurried to order YOUCAT!

I was happy to see the comments by Pope Benedict XVI on the new YOUCAT. He said much more than the following but here are a few things that are interesting: (my personal comments in the parentheses)

"Today I recommend for your reading an unusual book . . ." (this Pope cares for the youth!)

"Should we not attempt to translate the Catechism of the Catholic Church into the language of young people? Should we not bring its great riches into the world of today’s youth?" (YES!!!!)

"Many people say to me: The youth of today are not interested in this. I disagree, and I am certain that I am right. THE YOUTH OF TODAY ARE NOT AS SUPERFICIAL AS SOME THINK. They want to know what life is all about . . ." (this was my personal favorite! POPE BENEDICT XVI has confidence in the youth of today!)

"This book is exciting because it speaks of our own destiny and so deeply engages every one of us. I invite you: Study this Catechism! That is my heartfelt desire."

"This catechism was not written to please you.

Spiritual Leadership

Spiritual Leadership: A Commitment to Excellence for Every Believer (Commitment To Spiritual Growth) Paperback – May 1, 2007
Author: Visit ‘s J. Oswald Sanders Page ID: 0802482279

Review

“Spiritual Leadership should be the constant companion of every undershepherd in the Savior’s service. Most helpful is the fact that its emphasis is not on methods, but on character, passion, and godliness. I read it often to regrip the basic perspectives of my task, and have given it to the entire leadership team in our church.” — John MacArthur, Jr. Pastor-Teacher Grace Community Church –This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

Review

Spiritual Leadership is the best book I’ve read on Christian leadership.  I give copies to every key associate.
-Charles Colson, Chairman, Prison Fellowship

As a young pastor, J. Oswald Sanders’ book Spiritual Leadership was the first book I read that awakened me to the subject of leadership. It started me on a 30-plus year journey of teaching leadership to pastors and laypeople. No other book has influenced my life the way this one has.
John C. Maxwell, Author, speaker and founder—the INJOY Group

Spiritual Leadership by J. Oswald Sandersis a classic among the classics. I read it as a young Christian, later as a leader, and needed what’s been taught in this book. I highly recommend it!
-Chip Ingram, President, Walk Thru the Bible

Most helpful is the fact that its emphasis is not on methods, but on character, passion, and godliness. I read it often to regrip the basic perspectives of my task, and have given it to the entire leadership team in our church.
John MacArthur, Pastor-teacher, Grace Community Church

I first read Oswald Sanders’ Spiritual Leadership as a young woman heading into ministry. It helped to shape my perspective, priorities, and passion and to ground my heart and mind in the timeless truths of Scripture. Anyone who desires to serve the Lord would do well to digest and internalize this classic.
Many Christian workers today are enamored of the latest trends, marketing models, and bestselling books by leadership gurus; they aspire to a sense of greatness and success that exalts human giftedness and rests on shifting sand.  By contrast, the kingdom of God will always and only be advanced by humble servants of God who lead out of a clear sense of divine calling, personal integrity, spiritual depth, and dependence on Christ–men and women of prayer, full of the Word and wisdom, and anointed with the power of the Spirit.  These are the ingredients Sanders urges us to prize and pursue.
-Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Author, Host of Revive Our Hearts Radio

The accelerated change in both the church and larger society compels the revision of the language of a classic like Spiritual Leadership.  The ideas of Oswald Sanders are of too great value to risk losing any of their power to the ever-changing idiom of the present century.
-D. James Kennedy, Ph.D., Author and Senior Minister, Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church

J. Oswald Sanders’ book Spiritual Leadership came to my hand shortly after it was published and was a great help to me as a young minister.  I recommend it highly, not only to pastors and Christian workers, but to all Christians who want to know something about God’s leadership in their own lives.
-Warren W. Wiersbe, Author, Conference Speaker

This book proves that a godly attitude lies at the heart of Christian leadership.  It does not borrow principles of leadership from the world and apply them to the church, but rather derives priniciples of leadership directly from the Scriptures.  It ought to be read by all of us at least once a year.
-Erwin W. Lutzer, Senior Pastor, Moody Memorial Church

Godly leadership is more than being the most qualified to lead. Leaders in Christian ministry must understand and practice servanthood as taught by Jesus. Sanders compares the characteristics of "natural" leadership to spiritual leadership. In "natural" leadership, the emphasis is on power- specifically the ability to get subordinates to do things "they don’t want to do" and forcing people to act (27). Spiritual leadership is "influencing others spiritually" (28). Spiritual leaders must not only possess leadership skills, but be ready and prepared to fight a spiritual battle (53). Sanders reminds readers that "God prepares leaders with a specific place and task in mind" (51). Even though many Christians are not called to a full-time ministry, all Christians are leaders since they influence people (109). Sanders insists on a leadership model in which leadership is "from the top down"-"never" from the "bottom up" (113). This philosophy is consistent with his other statement, "no cross, no leadership" (116). His description of spiritual leadership seems bleak by "natural" standards: a leader "lives with loneliness" (117), "fatigue is the price of leadership" (119), and "no leader lives a day without criticism" (119). Sanders’ leadership model is very biblical in that it reflects the principle of leadership under God’s guidance-" Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid of them! The LORD your God will go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor forsake you" (Deu. 31:6 NLT). Leadership "from the top down" starts with God at the top. God is the Lord over creation, man, and the Sabbath and all is consecrated to Him.
Over half a million copies of this book have been sold over the past thirty-seven years, and many ministers and Church leaders have made it their touchstone for ministry. An Updated Edition has been published by Moody Press – modernising the text, and enlarging the format. However, while the book has much to recommend it, it represents an outlook which is unlikely to find universal accord among Church leaders.

Sanders introduces the subject of spiritual leadership with a quote from 1 Timothy 3:1 (NEB). "To aspire to leadership is an honorable ambition." It is a telling choice of translation, and sets the tone for all that is to come. By way of comparison, a Greek transliteration puts it as follows: "If anyone aspires to oversight, he desires a good work." Since "ambition" is a word which describes personal motivation, Sanders thus throws the focus back onto the leader. The transliteration, on the other hand, refers to "a work" (Gk. ergos), which is task-oriented. Far from being a question of semantics, this defines the content of the entire book. Sanders focuses heavily on personal character, influence, and motivation, rather than on the task at hand, or on the empowerment of God. In keeping with this, when he deals at length with "essential qualities of leadership", he chooses qualities of character, rather than what one might call core spiritual qualities, such as trust in God, or an understanding of the Holy Spirit’s anointing. The consequences of this are a heavy obligation on self – "God, harden me against myself" – and the book is characterised by demanding "the utmost" of oneself.

This approach does find a rapport in many Churches.

At a person point she has so disrupted at their own teIDg that will, " I ran for the bathroom and even locked myself personally in the not work. Shane decides to have them to come back, by appearing as a girl online who may be interested in all of them. Hijinks occur, and younger Shane can then be, for once, presented the power to seal them straight down.

Shane protects so many humorous stories via his your life, including the first hug (at Twenty One years old to a girl), his a few year career as a store assistant at a weight-loss center(! ), and even the experiences by using astral projection. His / her writing is amusing, irreverent, occasionally filthy, and inspired. I especially enjoyed all the pop tradition references, via Saved from the Bell in order to Gary Busey to seventh Heaven in order to even Sizzler and Nutter Butters.

During his reports, his uncontrolled self-deprecation all-but-covers-up his actual issues with self-image and self-pride. I frequently observe Shane online (to possibly be specific, everyday). And getting to view into the life, like it was " our minimal secret", was actually fun nonetheless really gloomy at the same time. I don’t suggest I had been sad that will I used the time studying it, I meant the storyplot was gloomy. I realized from a number of Shane’s video’s that he a new hard time if he was maturing, but I didn’t this was like that will. Being a Orlando, like Shane, it was very good to see which he went to The almighty for aid when he necessary it. I must declare, it was fantastic getting to contain Shane for the hour . 5 while studying rather then simply 5 minutes each day.

How do I talk about this specific? I suggest, I’m estimating that if occur reading this, should you have an interest within Shane or perhaps reading the book. If you need to read the book, examine it. It should be good. Specifically if you like the humour. I mean, sure, I might admit there were some things that will I missed as humorous as some may possibly but everybody’s different I guess. I do appreciate watching Shane’s video’s nonetheless getting to find into the life, GENUINELY, was a completely different experience.

His / her stories had been interesting, held my consideration, made me have fun and sometimes helped me really gloomy. There was lots of sadness any time I check out this. But the many laughing and even happy moments manufactured the story worth their expense. And, a little bit side be aware, the cover up is incredible. I like the use of colouring and lighting effects. Just incredible. Another incredible thing relating to this book is the fact Shane received his admirers to sketch pictures per short message in the book and even I consider that’s an additional awesome point he has performed. He is taking recognition to the aspiring painters, not all with himself.

Exactly what I’m wanting to say can be: job congratulations Shane. I certainly savored your guide and I feel seriously bad I couldn’t help you on your guide tour for the reason that I adore books a great deal. Which is why this is an awesome concept. A mix of him or her and textbooks… just magnificent.

I purchased this guide for the daughter that has followed Shane Dawson for many years now. The two of us have been some sort of avid fans of Shane. We made a decision to read the guide together. Most of us laughed in order to tears after which we cried and jeered again. I must declare this is the most entertaining textbooks that I have examine in a very long time. My little princess never enjoyed reading nonetheless she didn’t want to put this guide down. Your sweetheart hopes which he will publish another one and even can’t wait around to have him or her read this to her because she strategies to purchase that will down load at the same time. I consider anyone with a feeling of humor would want this book younger or old. I am thus glad that will I ordered this book on her. It gives an internal story in order to Shane great personal activities though many are sad the majority are extremely humorous. I would probably highly recommend this guide as a product or just on your own regardless of your actual age. We all did similar stuff in our life nonetheless he has assemble it in an incredibly enjoyable guide that you as soon as you start studying you simply couldn’t put down.
